SARAA Scotland and MoreApp to the rescue

We are immensely proud of how MoreApp enhances the rescue missions of Scotland’s Search and Rescue Aerial Association (SARAA Scotland). The non-profit organisation employs drones to access difficult areas and assist those in need. As aviation activities, these operations require checklists, risk assessments, and other forms, all digitised with MoreApp.

Results and improvements

Enhanced safety

Drones reduce risks for volunteers by assessing dangerous areas.

Operational efficiency

Digital forms streamline processes and save valuable time.

Reliable offline use

MoreApp functions effectively in remote areas without connectivity.

About

SARAA Scotland and its dedicated volunteers are committed to ensuring the safety of individuals in the Scottish hills and mountains. Initially, rescue operations relied solely on human efforts and search dogs. Four years ago, drones were introduced as a valuable addition to the rescuer's toolkit. This innovation coincided with Tom Nash, Chairperson & Team Lead at SARAA Scotland, beginning to work with MoreApp. Drones have revolutionised rescue operations by easily combing areas and locating casualties while reducing risks for volunteers. Equipped with advanced technology such as thermal cameras, floodlights, and speakers, drones have become an indispensable part of the rescue teams.

Challenge

SARAA Scotland faced significant challenges in their rescue operations due to the rugged and often inaccessible terrain of the Scottish mountains. Traditional methods of search and rescue were limited in scope and posed risks to the volunteers themselves. The introduction of drones brought about a new set of challenges, particularly in terms of regulatory compliance and safety. As part of aviation, drone operations are heavily regulated, requiring meticulous documentation and adherence to safety protocols. The need for efficient and reliable digital solutions to manage these requirements became apparent.

Solution

MoreApp provided SARAA Scotland with a comprehensive digital solution to address their challenges. By digitising risk assessments and flight checklists, MoreApp ensured that all necessary safety measures were met before flying the drones. The digital risk assessment form, filled out by pilots, served as a flight notification and was shared with Police Scotland, ensuring compliance and safety. MoreApp's intuitive interface allowed for easy updates and modifications to forms, while its offline capability ensured that volunteers in remote areas could complete forms without data connectivity. Key features of MoreApp that SARAA Scotland benefited from include:

  • Offline functionality in remote areas
  • Mandatory fields to ensure complete registrations
  • Simplified risk assessments

Results

The implementation of MoreApp's digital solutions has yielded significant improvements in SARAA Scotland's rescue operations. The use of drones, combined with digital risk assessments and checklists, has enhanced safety and operational efficiency. Key achievements include:

  • Enhanced safety for volunteers through the use of drones to assess dangerous areas
  • Streamlined processes and reduced human error through digital forms and checklists
  • Reliable offline functionality, ensuring that forms can be completed in remote areas without connectivity

Overall, MoreApp has enabled SARAA Scotland to save time, work more efficiently, and improve the effectiveness of their rescue missions.

MoreApp’s interface is really intuitive, allowing me to have forms ready or updated when needed. Because the app is available offline, it allows even our colleagues high up in the mountains with no data connectivity to fill in the forms.
